Career Readiness Guide

Provides library and Internet resources to assist you with your job search.

How to Use This Guide

This guide provides an overview of library resources you can use for career preparation and job search research. Use the pages on the left-hand side to navigate through the guide. Whether you are researching potential employment prospects, preparing for a job interview or a career/job fair, you want to do your homework. Resources on this guide, and through Career Development, can help you do that.

Need help getting started or have a specific question? Contact the Career Development team at askcareer@stkate.edu or Sue Gray, the business librarian (contact info below).

  • LearningExpress has practice tests for board exams for a variety of health care professions such as nursing, OTA, PTA, social work, etc). Use the down arrow next to Centers to go to Career Preparation, and then look for the exams.

Be an Informed Consumer When Using Job & Career Websites

  • Many career and job websites will require that you register or create an account to access their information. Or you may begin to use a site for free, and then hit a paywall that requires that you purchase the information.
  • Use your best judgment as to whether or not you want to provide your personal and/or contact information to a third-party.
  • Read the fine print about how they will use your information.
  • Look for an "About" or "About Us" section of the website to help you evaluate the legitimacy of the content providers, and verify any information with other reliable sources.
  • Ask a member of the career development team, or a librarian for advice about using a specific website.

Career Websites

Recent political changes at the BLS have created a perception of potential bias. You should not rely solely on BLS data and fact-check its information with other reliable sources.
