Why use a map?

If you are doing research on a particular region, a map or atlas can help to get you acquainted with the area. Historical research might benefit from using a historical atlas so that you can see what a region or country looked like at the time. Many atlases also feature economic, geopolitical, religious, and social statistics that might be of use.
