The purpose of the Library Collection Services Graduate Assistant position is to provide professional-level support in building, maintaining, and making accessible library collections to our campus community as well as to create a hands-on learning experience for the graduate student.
The person in this position will learn about and work with many library systems including; Integrated Library System (ILS) Alma/Primo from Ex Libris, EZproxy (OCLC), Central Discovery Index (Alma), OCLC Connexion, SUSHI (usage gathering) and other integral aspects of library collections and systems work.
- 10-20 hours per week, depending upon availability (in person, daytime hours during the week are required)
- $16.25 per hour, plus sick leave
- Position lasts through Summer 2024, with the possibility of extending
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work with the Library Collections team using Alma, the Ex Libris ILS, in various areas including:
- acquisitions
- cataloging
- e-resource management
- serials
- Copy cataloging of print materials
- Activating and troubleshooting e-resources
- Adding and updating license information in Alma
- Verifying holdings data for serials subscriptions
- Doing data clean up projects
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Must have taken or are currently taking LIS 7030 Organization of Knowledge or can demonstrate equivalent experience
- A strong interest in systems librarianship
- Excellent technical/computer skills and a willingness to learn
- Ability to follow through with repetitive tasks
- Strong attention to detail
