Sustainability

This guide provides information about sustainability learning and practices for St. Kate's academics, community, and beyond.

Campus Resources

In 2022–23, St. Kate's administration, students, faculty, staff, and community partners established the cross-campus Sustainability Committee to collaborate on new goals, engage the community, and align projects already in motion. In conjunction with the formation of this committee, along with the adoption of the Laudato Si' action plan, St. Kate's has created a virtual Sustainability Hub for students and community members.

Community Resources

If you are interested in taking active steps toward sustainability, one of the best ways you can do so is to get involved with local community efforts. In addition to campus resources, you can find community groups in the St. Kate's neighborhood and beyond.

  • Macalester-Groveland Community Council: Environmental Subcommittee: The Environmental Committee is a sub-committee of the Community Building Team (CBT). CBT’s mission is to cultivate an engaged community by fostering ideas that build connections, preserve safety, and enhance the unique character of Macalester Groveland. This group offers environmental resources on their website.
  • St. Paul Climate Action Planning Department: In 2019, the city council of St. Paul developed a climate action and resilience plan. This plan focuses on achieving carbon neutrality for city operations by 2030 and citywide by 2050.
  • Sustain St. Paul: Sustain Saint Paul champions abundant housing, low-carbon transportation, and sustainable land use in the city of Saint Paul. Their website has ways to learn more or get involved with their mission.
