Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, and Almanacs

Suggested resources for research as well as descriptions and examples of these sources

When you are doing research, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and almanacs might be the last thing on your mind - but they can actually be quite useful! Dictionaries and encyclopedias can give you concise definitions of terms, short descriptions of historical events, or brief biographies of different figures that otherwise might be too lengthy or complicated for your needs. Almanacs will give you information on different subjects and are usually kept current. Whether in a physical book or accessed through one of our databases, these sources can get you the information you need quickly and succinctly.
