APA Basics Workshop Resource Guide

Workshop Information and Registration

APA Basics, 7th Edition (Registration is now closed)

APA Basics is a two-hour workshop for APA beginners or those who need a refresher (and who doesn't need an APA refresher!). 

The following topics will be covered:

  • The ethical use of sources
  • How to use APA resources
  • Creating reference list entries and in-text citations
  • Formatting an APA paper

Please register for only one workshop time (the content is the same for both workshops). We will not be confirming registrations unless we need to start a waiting list for Saturday's in-person workshop (first come, first served). A link to the Wednesday online workshop will be sent to registrants.

The deadline for registration is 5 p.m. on Friday, September 17 for Saturday's workshop, and 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21 for Wednesday's workshop. We cannot accommodate late registrations.

Can't attend any of the workshops? The Library has also created a self-paced online APA course located on our APA Resource Guide ( We encourage anyone who uses APA to take this course.

Preparation for the Workshops

  • The workshops will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. We have a lot of information to cover, and we want to respect your time. The workshops will not be recorded.
  • Check-in for Saturday's workshop will start at 8:30 a.m.
  • If you're attending the online workshop, please login prior to 6:30 in case you need to troubleshoot any technology issues. Do not use Internet Explorer to access the online workshop.
  • Print or download the PowerPoint slides before the workshop if you want your own copies (click the Workshop Resources page - slides will be available starting Thursday, Sept. 16). Copies will not be available at the workshop.
  • Complete the workshop evaluation, which will be provided or sent to you after the workshop.
  • Let Lizzy know if you will not be able to attend. A quick email to is appreciated!

What to bring:

  • For Saturday's workshop, please bring your own laptop or device so you can bookmark essential APA resources.
  • Bring your own copy of the APA manual, or have it handy, if you have one.
  • Your questions!

COVID Protocol for the In-Person Workshop:

To safeguard the participation of all attendees, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Masks are required for all students on campus per University policy (if you have a face mask exemption, please provide documentation at check-in).
  • If you have not been fully vaccinated, please contact Sue at so we can work out a seating accommodation.
  • If you are feeling sick, do not come to campus!  Alternatively, you can register for the online workshop or take the online APA course.
  • Food and beverage cannot be consumed in Fontbonne 210. You are welcome to use the lounge area in Fontbonne.
