Online Workshop Information and Registration

APA Basics Workshops

APA Basics is an online, synchronous webinar for students new to APA 7th edition or for those who haven't used APA in a while (and who doesn't need an APA refresher!). For the first time, the library is opening these workshops to all students.

Workshop Dates:

Saturday, September 19 from 9:00-11:00 am (CST)

Wednesday, September 23 from 6:30-8:30 pm (CST)

The following topics will be covered:

  • APA Style 7th edition resources
  • Creating reference list entries
  • Creating in-text citations
  • Formatting an APA paper (professional and student paper formats)

Participants will be sent a link to join the session so registration is required. Registration will close on Tuesday, Sep 22 at 3 pm for Wednesday's workshop. These are firm deadlines. (We will have an ASL interpreter but we need to notify them in advance if they are not needed).

Please register for only one workshop session (the content is the same for both workshops). You will receive an email confirming your participation.

Registration for Saturday's workshop is closed.

Can't attend the workshops? The sessions will be recorded. Prefer learning at your own pace? Librarians have created an online APA course that you can take anytime located on the APA guide.

Preparation for the Online Workshop

Once your registration has been confirmed, please note the following items:

  • Let Sue know if you will not be able to attend. A quick reply to the confirmation email you receive is appreciated!
  • If you prefer, print or download the PowerPoint slides before the workshops (click the Workshop Resources page). Workshop materials will be posted no later than September 16.
  • We encourage you to join the session early to troubleshoot any technology issues. We will open access to Saturday's workshop at 8:45 am, and we will start promptly at 9; access to Wednesday's workshop will begin at 6:15 pm, and we will begin promptly at 6:30.
  • Do not use Internet Explorer to access the webinar.
  • Have the Workshop Resources page and the APA Style website up on your computer as we will be referring to them during the webinar.
  • If you have your own copy of the APA 7th manual, keep it handy so you can refer to it during the workshop.
  • The workshops will be recorded so you will need to consent to being recorded before you join the session.

We look forward to working and learning together.
