Common ebook questions

  • Can I view an ebook without creating an individual account separate from my St. Kate's account?
    • Yes, you can view the ebooks online by accessing the database using your St. Kate's username and password.
  • What does creating an individual account allow one to do?
    • In many ebook databases, an individual account is required to: save searches, download and checkout full ebooks, take personal ebook notes, and download ebooks to mobile devices.
  • How long can I checkout an ebook?
    • Each provider is different.  Please see the tab for your ebook collection.
  • Can I download an ebook to a mobile device?
    • Yes, many of our providers have designated apps. Many are available for iOS and Android devices. Note that you typically still need to set up an account with the provider before you can download to any device.
  • Can I place a hold on an ebook that is currently checked out (limited to single user)?
    • Yes, you can search for the ebook in our main search box on the library homepage and click on the title in the search results. You can then click on the green St. Kate's access button. If the item is in use, you can request to be placed on the hold queue (an individual account required).
  • I am having trouble with the ebook software, apps, or downloading to my device. Where can I find help?
    • Please refer to the online help guide for your ebook provider, contact the library research help desk, or the computer help desk.
  • Do you have a print version of this ebook available?
    • In some cases we also have purchased print copies of particular books. You can search for the title on our main search box on the library homepage to see all formats that we have available. If the book in print is available at another CLIC library, you can request it.
  • Can I view or checkout an ebook that is at another CLIC library?
    • No, you can only access titles that indicate "St. Catherine University access."
