Transgender Resources Guide

The purpose of this LibGuide is to assist St. Catherine University students, faculty, and community in understanding, identifying, and supporting the Transgender experience.

LGBTQ Terminology: Do's and Don'ts

Please keep in mind that some resources, especially historical documents or opinion pieces, may use different and potentially offensive language when dealing with issues of race and/or queer themes.

Terminology such as "transsexual," "transvestite," and "homosexual" are offensive to today's audience, but may be part of either a source you are reviewing or search terms you may need to use.

Regarding best practices and alternatives in regards to proper terminology, this guide can be a good place to start: GLAAD Media Reference Guide
